This striking hand-painted icon depicts Saint Lawrence, one of the most venerated early Christian martyrs, known for his courage, faith, and charitable heart. Saint Laurentius (Lawrence) served as a deacon in 3rd-century Rome under Pope Sixtus II, entrusted with caring for the poor and distributing the Church’s treasures. When commanded by the Roman authorities to surrender the Church’s wealth, he famously presented the poor and sick, declaring them the true treasures of the Church. He was martyred by fire and is now remembered as a patron of the poor, cooks, and those who serve others with humility.
