Saint Silouan the Athonite (O Άγιος Σιλουανός ο Αθωνίτης).
This serene hand-painted icon honors Saint Silouan the Athonite, one of the most beloved modern elders of Mount Athos and a radiant spiritual guide of the 20th century. Executed in the traditional Byzantine style with egg tempera and enriched with genuine 22K gold leaf, the icon is mounted on asymmetrically hand-carved natural wood—reflecting the saint’s deep humility and inner stillness.
Born in Russia in 1866, Saint Silouan entered monastic life on Mount Athos, where he lived in repentance, spiritual struggle, and unceasing prayer. Through divine grace, he attained great spiritual discernment and became known for his teachings on love, humility, and the necessity of praying for the whole world—especially for one's enemies. His spiritual son, Saint Sophrony of Essex, later shared his life and writings with the world.
